I’ve been getting more and more conversation practice in my daily life at work and with friends, but still really felt I needed more intensive talking practice.
So a few weeks ago I put up the following advertisement in a nearby university library and several other places on campus:
한국어 회화 구함: 한국어를 배우는 미국 사람이에요. 친절한 한국어 회화할 상대들을 찾고 있어요. 영어 못하면 좋겠는데 왜냐하면 한국어로만 회화하고 싶어요. 이메일 주세요. something@something.com (1시간 = 5,000원^^)
I got loads of responses, and finally agreed to go with four people for a total of ten hours each week. We’ve started reading books together, talking about the content, as well as talking about picture books. We’re also started watching 지붕 뚫고 하이킥 / High Kick Through The Roof. . . pausing whenever I miss a word or phrase. I’ve been finding that even though i have no trouble following the stories by myself, theres lots of very common words and phrases that I miss unless I go through it carefully with a helper.
