Girl’s monologue — Will it snow for Christmas?

This is the first girl’s monologue I’ve done. I watched when it first came out two years ago, but it really stuck in my head. I’ve clipped it and uploaded it on youtube. This monologue is from the end of episode 10. The transcript is below.

아줌마 사실은 아까 두번이나 오빠 속였어요.
자뻑 먹으면 원래 2장 주는건데 1장만 주고

내가 뭐 모자사이를 이간질 하겠다는게 아니구요.
고스톱도 일종의 게임이라면 게임인데

Winter Sonata Monologue

It’s the first Korean drama I ever saw. . . a few months after I came to Korea. As such it holds a special place in my heart. I still remember standing in the drama center in Chuncheon, watching a clip from this drama with subtitles and realizing that I could learn loads of Korean from watching it. I subsequently watched the whole thing. At least twice.

This is a monologue with a few interjections from 배용준 with a few interjections from 최지우. The audio is here.

Yesterday I tried to write down the script for this monologue and failed miserably. Fortunately with the help of a bunch of friends on Lang-8, I finally got the complete script. It’s from one of the dramas playing these days — 부자의 탄생.

실례를 무릅쓰고 제가 한 말씀 드리겠습니다. 지금 존경하는 강연자분께서는 본인이 직접 쓰신 책의 내용처럼 긍정의 힘이 위대하다고 말씀하셨습니다. 그러니 긍정의 힘을 갉아먹는 부정의 힘 같은 건 깡그리 무시해라, 이런 취지이죠. 한 예로, 이(口癖) 차가 너무 막히는 교통지옥에서도 짜증은 금물, 이왕 막히는 거라면 그 시간을 즐겨라, 라디오나 노래를들으며, 혹은 애인과 통화를 하면서요. 근데 전 이런 생각을 해 봅니다. 아, 정말 차 막혀서 차 못 몰아 먹겠네. 어휴,대한민국 교통체증 정말 문제야, 라고 짜증을 내는 흡혈귀들이야말로 그 지옥 같은 교통체증에 문제를 느끼고 해결할 의지를 갖지 않을까요? 즉 대한민국을 교통지옥에서 구하는 것은 긍정이 아니라 바로 부정의 힘인 것이죠. 부정의 힘이야말로 긍정의 힘을 갉아먹는 걸림돌이 아니라 긍정을 진화할 수 있는 디딤돌로 여러분 기차에 없어서는 안 될 위대한 힘이라고 생각합니다. 제 생각에 부정적 견해를 가지신 분은 기탄없이 말씀해 주십시오. 그 의견은 저를 더 한 층 더 성숙시키는, 소중한 자양분이 될 테니까요.

죄송합니다.

여기 올때도 갑자기오지않았습니까? 더욱이 작별은 느닷 없이 간결 하게 하는게 좋습니다. [한숨] 지난 일년 동안 고생들 많았다. 이제 너희들은 알게 됐을 거다. 나한테 들볶이고, 자신과 싸우고, 고민하면서 너희들이 하고 있는 공부가 비단 대학에 가기 위한 공부만이 아니었다는 것. 최선을 다해 노력하면 무엇이든지 이룰 수 있다는 것을 말이다. 천하대에 합격했건 합격하지 않았건 그것은 중요하지 않다. 너희들에겐 이제 이 험난한 세상을 헤쳐나갈 수 있는 힘이 생겼기 때문이다. 이것이 바로 공부다. 진정한 공부란 인생을 올바르게 사는 방법을 깨우치는 것이다. 공부의 신이란 어떤 위치에 있든, 무엇을 하든 치열하게 인생을 살아 나가는 사람이다. 나는 너희들에게 이것을 깨닫게 해주고 싶었다. 너희들은 해냈다.너희들은 참으로 멋진 녀석들이다. 그동안 감사했습니다. 이만 물러가겠습니다.

I’m still having trouble memorizing things in Korean, but I feel I have to keep at up if want to get good, and it will get easier as I keep going. . . even though right now its still somewhat like pulling teeth.

Cool monologue from Iris

I clipped this cool monologue from the currently playing drama, Iris (아이리스). It’s the second episode.

I’ve already started memorizing it by listening to it and working with the script. The few times I’ve memorized things in Korean I’ve found it’s helped a lot in my fluency, pronunciation and just being able to say the syllables clearer and more quickly without stumbling.

내가 왜 NSS에 들어온 줄 알아요?

사실 저 NSS에서 요구하는 충성심 그딴거 잘 모릅니다.

특임대 있었을 때도 마찬가지였구요.

목숨 걸고 수행해야 되는 그 많은 임무들
그거 가능하게 만든건 투철한 애국심 그런 거 아니었어요.

그냥, 난생 처음으로 재밌다고 느꼈어요.

가까스로 길 찾은 다음에 아.. 이게 내 운명이겠구나. 뭐 그런 생각했어요.

그런 내가 NSS를 선택한 건 이 위험하고 복잡한 조직이 나한테는 되게 단순하게
생각됐어요.

목숨만 걸면 내가 재밌어 하는 내가 운명이라고 생각하는 그런 일을 계속하면서 살 수 있겠구나.

나 요원으로서의 충성심이나 애국심이나 그런 건 없어도 내가 정한 건 끝까지 물고 늘어지는 놈입니다.
